On the first day of the clinic,
we will spend all day with the colts. I will work with each one individually
and get him saddled. After all are saddled, we will catch them, and each
person will do some ground work with his own colt.
On the next three days, we will ride the colts in the
morning and have the horsemanship class in the afternoon.
The colt class is for the young, "unbroken"
horses or for horses that have been ridden some and are having some trouble
understanding what’s being asked of them. I have never yet seen
a "problem horse" go through the colt class that didn’t
come out better for the experience. The colt class is basically to build
a foundation of trust, communication, and understanding between the horse
and rider.
The horsemanship class is designed to help you achieve
a higher level of communication with your horse, increase your awareness
of what your horse is doing and why, and help you work towards increased
harmony with your horse through simple, yet precise, exercises.
